Playwright
EMILY FINN’S PLAYWRIGHTING JOURNEY BEGAN OUT OF PEER PRESSURE. AS AN ACTOR, DIRECTOR, AND MONOLOGUE REPERTOIRIST, SHE OFTEN WOULD HAVE LONG CONVERSATIONS WITH UP AND COMING PLAYWRIGHTS ONLY TO BE MET WITH THE QUESTION, “WHAT ARE YOU WRITING CURRENTLY?” FINALLY, SHE DECIDED TO HAVE A REAL ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION.
THEY ARE LONG TIME READER, SHORT TIME PLAYWRIGHT, BASED IN NEW YORK CITY. SHE IS INSPIRED BY THE WORKS OF PAULA VOGEL, LYNN NOTTAGE, AND HALEY JAKOBSEN TO BRING A HYPERCONTEMPORARY VOICE TO STORIES OF CLASS, COMMUNITY, GENDER, AND QUEERNESS.
EMILY IS MOST INTERESTED IN WHERE THE INDIVIDUAL MEETS THE POLITICAL. SHE LOVES TO LOOK AT LARGER SYSTEMIC STRUCTURES AND FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE LIVING DAY TO DAY WITHIN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. EMILY WRITES PLAYS THE WAY THEY EXPERIENCE LIFE, WITH A LOT OF HUMOR TO EASE THE EXPANSIVENESS OF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE.
AUDIENCES HAVE DESCRIBED THEIR WRITING AS “YOUTHFUL, TRUTHFUL, AND VIVID” AND “DEEPLY IMPACTFUL AND INCREDIBLY KIND.” HER WORK HAS ALSO BEEN COMPARED TO BOJACK HORSEMAN, TWIN PEAKS, SHAMELESS, AND THE LIFE IS STRANGE GAMES.
